My Happiest Place On Earth

Universal Studios Hollywood is one of the many popular attractions that pull people from all sections of the globe to experience the wondrous state of California. It also happens to be where I spend most of my Sundays and Thursdays since the beginning of the year.

Every year, my parents gift me and my siblings with one of the most important things in my wallet: a season past. In the past, when it was just me and my brother they’d get passes and take us to Disneyland. After a bit, we got season passes to Knott’s Berry Farm and Soak City, where my friends and I spent some of the best weekends and summers ever.

This year, my parents decided to surprise us and get season passes to somewhere we’d never been before: Universal Studios Hollywood!

I was absolutely ecstatic for one reason in particular: Hogsmeade

I, along with being an absolute geek for musical theatre, was also born and breed into a family of major Harry Potter Nerds. I started reading the series when I was seven and finished it by the time my ninth birthday rolled around. After that, I kept the tradition of re-reading the entire series each summer and watching the entire franchise twice a year.

So yeah, the chance to be immersed not once, but as many times as I wanted (minus the block out dates) in a world I’d been dreaming of since the days of baby Kate? Hella exciting.

We first went in December, just me, my mom and my brother, and spent the whole time in Hogsmeade, taking in the world we’d dreamt of and getting our first taste of Butterbeer. We ended up riding the world’s main attraction, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, going on the Studio Tour in the evening,  and staying late for the Christmas light show before going home.

We’ve gone once a week since, eventually making our way through all of the rides on the park and bringing my sisters, my dad, my grandparents, and cousins a few times too.

We all found our favorite rides, a few of mine being Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, The Simpsons Ride, and the Mummy. My most favorite, though, is the Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour.

Every time we go, I’m not happy until we go on the tour. We could go on every single ride and see every single show, and we have, but if we miss the Studio tour, I wouldn’t shut up about it maybe ever.

Luckily, we haven’t missed it once, because every time we go I put the Studio Tour at the top of the list. But because it’s my favorite, I’m so mesmerized by my surroundings that I never get any pictures of it except for the very beginning of the tour, before we even leave the tram station.

My times riding through the backlot are some of the purest moments of joy I experience, and I’m allowed to do it once a week. Hearing the stories of the thousands of big names making their dreams come true in those very studios and learning about all the past and present Hollywood trailblazers gives me hope.

All of these people bringing the mirror up to our communities, telling them, “Hey, jackass, that’s what you look like”, and doing it in a way that sticks with to our hearts and makes us laugh and cry is such a magical thing that I can’t even fathom the fact that I could be passing by them at the very second the Tour guide is speaking about them.

The magic of Universal Studios Hollywood is endless, and each time I go, I feel it come over me like a new set of strong armor getting me ready for any troubles that may come my way until my visit again the next week when they bring me new armor yet again.

We’ve had so many great times at the park, and we plan to have more, especially when the Jurassic World Ride is finished in July!

For now, I’ll keep gazing out on the Studio Tour, screaming at the top of my lungs on the Mummy, and being tossed around on Forbidden Journey.

Thank you all so much for reading and I’ll write you again on Monday.

Until then!
