Hadestown Takes The Heart

Hello Hello Hello!

Welcome to the very first Show Tune Sunday!

What is Show Tune Sunday? Well, I’m glad you asked random viewer in the back of the house!

Show Tune Sunday is a new category of posts I’ve created to include more Musical Theatre discussion in the blog. Every Sunday, if the schedule permits it, I will discuss my favorite show of the week. Whether that be my favorite current (or past) Broadway or off-Broadway show of the week.

I’ll discuss the cast, the crew, my favorite song, act, whatever comes to mind. Over time, if the posts pick up and interest grows around Show Tune Sundays, I’ll take suggestions from you guys on shows or actors to follow and write about.

If you have any suggestions already, let me know in the comments below or in the comments of my last Instagram post! (the link to my Instagram is down below!)

To start us off is the spectacular show currently taking over Broadway, Hadestown.

The show was created by Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin, with an entire Tony-winning and incredibly brilliant creative team behind them.

Most of you who have been following me for a while now- either on Instagram since January of this year or on the blog since the Tony Award posts- know of my absolute obsession with Hadestown.

The musical has stolen my heart and the build-up of excitement for the approaching album/song drops have only increased my adoration for the show.

The songs that have been released so far are on Spotify, of which can be found here (Spotify) . I highly recommend that you check out this beautiful show on Spotify or in the multitude of videos that are on the absolute gift that is Youtube. It captures the heart and sways the soul into beauty, it’s breathtaking nature only proven in its audience’s obsession, most of whom haven’t even seen the show yet- myself included

HADESTOWN  intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, dancers and singers, HADESTOWN  is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.”

The show is so brilliantly crafted, and told in song throughout, with which I’m pretty sure is no pause in the music. I’m absolutely certain that I’ve run out of Hadestown content to consume because I’ve watched every youtube video, read every article, and viewed every performance I possibly could to get some sort of sense of the show itself.

I’ve watched every Little Songbird episode with Eva Noblezada on the Broadway.com Youtube account (the first one can be found here) and as many interviews with the creative team and gorgeous cast as there are availableto help myself learn more about the masterpiece that is Hadestown.

My favorite actors in the show are  Amber Gray and Eva Noblezada, who play Persephone and Eurydice respectively, Their powerhouse voices, which can be heard on the Original Broadway Cast Recording or all over the show’s Instagram page, are my current main source of inspiration for pursuing those Broadway Dreams.

With so many beautiful songs to choose from, I’m not sure that I can accurately nail down my favorite song, but at the moment it seems to be a struggle between two. Constantly on repeat are Lady Of The Underground and Flowers, each of them being headlined by Amber Gray and Eva Noblezada.

I strongly recommend that you all check out these songs, which are my favorite to belt while cleaning, taking a shower, or just because I feel like it. I also think that you guys should check out the show itself, by searching it up on youtube, Instagram, or directly reading through their website.

That’s all for this Show Tune Sunday! Before you go, leave a comment down below to answer this week’s question:
