Happy Sunday everyone!
I know this post is nearly a week late, but it’s been extremely hectic for me lately. Almost every day this week has had a crisis or crisis averted paired with it.
In this post, I’m just going to go through the week I had, leading up to the opening night of Game Of Tiaras, a play that I’m lucky enough to be apart of with some of the most amazing cast members in the world.
(Come see it if you’re in the area. All shows start at 8pm and it’s $10 at the door.)
This coming week is tech week, and It’s sure to be incredibly stressful, what with set builds, cue timing, and getting those last few people off-book. But, this week was just as stressful and, like I hope next week will be, filled with multiple golden moments with friends, family, and classmates.
On Monday, not much happened but a run-through of the first act and preparation for trunk or treat, an annual event held at our high school for little kids to receive candy and play fun games, of which are supported by school clubs or community groups. Trunk or treat doubles as and an opportunity for clubs, classes, and others involved to raise funds, spread awareness about their club’s or class’ upcoming projects, and interact with the community overall.
On Tuesday, trunk or treat began and drama was blessed with both an activities table and a trunk/activities area. We had “build a snowman” treats for the kids, trowl bowling, pin the nose on Olaf, and Olaf himself in attention to greet the kids and gift them some candy and pictures. The event in planning was incredibly messy and stressful, especially since the trunk team (which I became apart of at its turn around) only had about six days to rework their ideas and create the booth as a whole.
In action, however, the event went extremely well and beyond expectations. By the end of it, multiple parents had expressed their interest in our show, I had nearly lost my voice for how often I approached parents about the show, and hundreds of little kids went home happy with their bags full of candy a picture with Olaf. Clean up went somewhat smoothly and I was home by 9.

For the past three weeks, I’ve been having major trouble sleeping. I have no idea why, and it hasn’t stopped, but I’ve been tossing and turning every single night, waking up every two hours at least, and each time I get up it gets harder to fall back to sleep.
That night, for some reason, it was especially difficult, and I had to call off from school the next day. I stayed home and did homework, played with my dog, and played the sims. I belted broadway songs (which was a huge mistake because my voice was already weak from trunk or treat) and watched rom coms. I did whatever I wanted to do that day because I figured that maybe all I needed was a mental break from school and responsibility.

The next day, Thursday, was Halloween, and there was no way in heck I was missing that. The night before, I threw a costume together last minute at about 11pm after my mom told me that the hat I found in the garage made me look “very ’80s.” Thus was born Duckie Kate, who gifted me many smiling nods from teachers and confused looks from peers. Either way, I killed it at school and was very exhausted from the day-long sugar rush I had experienced (plus the social anxiety I was feeling from wearing a full face of makeup for the first time at school).
As soon as I got home I, full face of makeup and the complete costume (including glasses, hat, and heeled boots) still on, flopped onto my bed and took an hour-and-a-half-long nap. I woke up at around 5, quickly changed into a hoodie and jeans, and headed on over to Nat’s house to eat Cane’s with the gang.
(Pictured above is the gang, post-canes and soda, extremely hyped on sugar.)
We shouted, screamed, laughed and cried way louder than we needed to the entire night. It was one of the best nights of my life and I truly wish that I could live in moments like those forever. I can’t wait until we blast good music, argue over weird raccoon-related things, and eat great food again. I had to be picked up by nine, so the fun felt like it had ended as soon as it started. That night I slept the whole night through, a good sign of the days behind and ahead of me.
The next day was one filled with a leftover sugar rush, a bunch of assignments, and so many absences that our last rehearsal before hell week was canceled.
Most of the day was full of free periods and easy days, my favorite being drama, where we played Uno and sang whole original broadway cast recordings of our favorite musicals.
It was what will probably be my last peaceful week before the storm of this week. I know I’ve been talking about how horrible I expect this week to go for the entire post, but I truly hope it will be a great one. The week will be what I make it, and so will the show, so as long as I put my heart and soul into my work it should go splendidly.
Since I expect this week to be exceptionally hectic, I’ll be posting yet again on Sunday evening. I have full runs and dress rehearsals all week (all of which will most certainly go past 5:30), opening night on Friday, and a volunteer meeting during the day at the La Mirada theatre (plus another show that night), all of which I am beyond excited and unprepared for.
But! I’m putting positive energy out there so, Universe, please return it!
I’ll get back to all of you on Sunday! Have the best week ever this week. Positive vibes coming your way 🙂
